Renaissance Faires are one of our favorite places
to go. All the fun of the Middle Ages without the bubonic plague, witch
burning, or chamber pots! Ample bosoms in overflowing tight bodices
and manly men in tights! Beautifull leather goods of all types abound!
The fine craftmanship of the swords and daggers will take your breath
away. Don't forget all that wonderful food!
While living in California we always went to the
Renaissance Pleasure Fair in the San Bernardino area. It's a large,
beautifully landscaped rambling park. The artisans and performers are
top notch and the jousting matches very exciting. Their "Birds
of Prey" show was also a favorite of ours. Now living in Arizona
we visit the annual Renaissance Festival in Apache Junction as often
as we can. Each year it grows and evolves into a better and better event.
My first visit to it was strange in that you don't usually see knights
in armor and medieval kings and queens in the middle of the desert!
It kind of made you feel as if you were in a Monty Python movie! Since
then the landscaping has matured to the point it doesn't seem so strange.
The buildings are well cared for and a new feast hall was built that
now features reservations for Renne style weddings and receptions each
weekend the faire is going on. Below you will find links to info about
the California Renaissance Pleasure faire and our own Arizona version
as well as a a link to a directory of nationwide faires.
